More than 30 Years of Proclaiming the Gospel
Spring 1991
Reverend Willie Duvall received a vision and plan from the Lord to begin a local church ministry in Hyattsville Maryland. At first, he was resistant, pondering and procrastinating to understand God’s guidance and will.
In prayer and partnership with his wife, Mrs. Linda Duvall, Rev. Duvall soon aligned with God’s will.
Summer 1991
Bishop J. Clinton Hoggard gave his blessing for the beginning of a new church ministry in Hyattsville, MD - a place where no other AME Zion or Black Methodist churches existed.
Fall 1991
Word of God African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was organized on September 8 as a fellowship of 3 - Pastor Willie W. Duvall, Mrs. Linda Duvall, and their daughter Vonnetta.
The presence of the Holy Spirit has remained fervent. The congregation began to grow, worshipping at Hyattsville Elementary schools for three and a half years.
Spring 1995
Through God’s guidance and favor, the congregation acquired 4109 Edmonston Road in Bladensburg, MD.
The church continues there as a place “where everybody is somebody, and Jesus is Lord!”
Summer 2004
The church began its Bilingual Summer Bible Fun Camp, a blessing across generations and tongues.
Spring 2005
Our Spanish/English Evangelism Outreach program begins, by hearing about the Lord.
The church also was a vessel for the planting of Salvation AME Zion Church, under the leadership of Reverend Celestine Baldwin.
Winter 2006
We opened our hearts and doors to Way of the Cross Community Church.
Spring 2006
Elder Duvall and the congregation followed the will of the Lord, transitioning the church from a connectional body to a non-denominational body, thus birthing Word of God Community Church under the covering of the National Association Council of Community Churches of America and Elsewhere, Inc.
Fall 2018
The Lord blessed that Word of God Church installed an Executive Pastor to assist Pastor Duvall and the ministry. Elder Leonard C. Corbin, Jr. was installed as the Executive Pastor.
Elder Corbin’s servant leadership, support, and ministry administration continue to bless not only the church leadership but the whole of the Word of God Community Church family.
Spring 2021
Pastor Duvall was appointed one of the Spiritual Fathers of the National Association Council of Community Churches of America and Elsewhere, Inc. (NACCCAE), by the National President, Bishop Carol A. Jackson, and voted in by the members.
